I was a HUGE fan of Alan Grant's Ventriloquist and was thrilled to see him embraced by the various animated series and by many other Bat-scribes.
When Face the Face came out during the One Year Later stories, I was horrified to see a great schtick villain killed off in the service of promoting a new villain, the Great White Shark, who ended up doing pretty much nothing. The Ventriloquist, one of the defining villains of the late 80's-early 90's Bat-titles, received a ludicrously stupid send-off. Paul Dini's female Ventriloquist eased the pain a bit, being a pretty cool character in her own right, but it just wasn't the same.
Now with the relaunch, DC has been taking the opportunity to toss a lot of dumb stories out the door. It appears that Arnold Wesker may be back.
For those who missed him, the guy with the hand puppet is on the cover, on page 3 (top right), page 4 (bottom right panel), and page 7 (first panel, left side).
Anyone else excited about this?

With the sexual content of these two books, we have all seem the full range of comments from people not seeing the big deal to people generally outraged. On the outrage end of the spectrum, a generic summary of a lot of concerns can be listed as "is this what dc thinks of women?" Again, I'm basically paraphrasing here.
But, what I'm getting at is people are quick to blame the entity of DC for the portrayal of women in these books, but let's point out some specifics. Bobbie Chase, Rachel Gluckstern, Katie Kubert... All editors on these titles, all women.
So, correct me if I'm wrong... Editors approve outlines and scripts, correct? So it shouldn't take a genius to connect the dots I'm getting at here.
So, I propose the question, what are your all's thoughts on the fact that these stories, that some find detrimental to some of the women of the DCU, are edited by actual women?
I personally just find a bit of irony in the situation at hand, and Im wondering what everyone else thinks.
