Oscar Fun – TDK
Let's say Ledger gets nominated for an Oscar and I guess it can happen (I think he should at least be nominated, not sure about WINNING).... and you know that when they say their names before they announce the winner they show a clip of their role. What scene from TDK would you send to the Oscar people to play during this moment?

I think I would send the meeting from all the mobsters starting with Joker talking about why they do all their "therapy sessions" in daytime and ending with if you good at something you don't do it for free. I love that whole scene. I can't recall how long that moment in that scene lasts, but I love it.

Seriously.

I think one of the things I like what Marvel does even in the BS way is to tie their current stories with the movies being released. So like, when Spider-Man comes out they use the movie villains and the black suit comes back, Iron Monger comes back in Iron Man, ect.

I think this is were DC failed big time in this book.

The Dark Knight came out. Many of my friends who only associated with the Batman character via pop culture and TV found the movie's story so good, they actually thought about going out and picking up and Batman comic. I mean hay, if the movies are based on the books then the books must be as every bit as good as the Nolan movies, right?

Well...I had to later to promise them that the graphic novels (Long Halloween, Year One, ect) were much better, hell even Heart of Hush.

Because for many of the people I know around the shops, RIP broke their spirits.

I mean just imagine this...

You see this amazing movie that has a real vision, realistic action and characters. It has real philosophical and ethical arguments and intense action with none of the campyness of the 60's.

So you go out and open a Batman comic...

And here is Batman insane, running around in bright colors, there is some guy named Hurt who nobody has ever heard of along with some woman named Jezebel (WTF name?) who is even worse than Katie Homes' Rachel. Zen-Ur-Ah, Bat Mite, Nightwing getting a lobotomy, some reject club of villains, decompression chamber, hallucination and the main villain is supposedly the Devil.

...

This is not what people who wanted to see what the comics were like paid to see.

Like I said, I had to convince many people to read anything BUT RIP to get them to understand why us comic fans enjoy Batman so much.

Why do I have a feeling that DC lost many potential new customers because they let druggie Morrison write the death of a now extremely popular character that people are just truly getting to know about?

Which one do you liked better?

After watching them both back to back, I go with Returns. Even though I love Jack Nicholson's Joker (Yeah, Heath Ledger did it better, No he didn't, yeah he did, you two stop arguing they are both different interpretations yadda yadda yadda...), Returns' characterization, action and visuals were superior, from Gotham City to the Batsuit it all looked better.

And Micheal Keaton did a much better Job playing Bruce Wayne than he did in '89.

I just finished Dark Knight Returns for the first time...and I must say awesome. Anyway at the end they say Bruce was 55. It got me wondering how old is the current DC Batman/Bruce Wayne...well if he is alive.

My only Dark Knight Returns dissappointment, No appearance of Dick. That would have been cool.

I'm by no means an expert on the Joker or Batman but the latest issue of BOP 124 left me wondering something that I wanted to discuss with ya'll.

SPOILER. Highlight below text to read
In the latest issue of Birds of Prey Barbra Gordon and the Joker face off and in an intense exchange Barbra smashes in the Joker's teeth, which was apparently some big psychological victory for her as the Joker let out a cry of anguish over this, and in that now the Joker has a fake smile.

But my limited understanding of the Joker is that his grin is already artificial in nature as it is already forced on his face due to chemicals. I don't see how fake teeth would be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Is there something I'm not getting about the Joker?

Are there any single issues out there that cover Barbara's post-traumatic experience with the Joker crippling her? Anything that bridges the gap between her recovery and becoming Oracle? Anything covering Dick's reaction to this?

I know there's a Oracle: Year One Batman Chronicles comic out there but I've yet to pick it up. Don't know if it traces some of this material. I just find it odd that she rarely is mentioned or shown until Sword of Azrael.
