A few weeks ago I started a Batgirl fanfic set several years ago in the early days of Cassandra's title, long before she was dragged through the mud. I hoped to finish it by Halloween, since the entire thing is set on a Halloween night. That didn't happen -- it had to do with my saving my drafts on a flash drive, and then the flash drive dropping dead on me -- but I have posted 4 chapters, and I hope to post a fifth tomorrow night. If you're in the mood for an unfinished Halloween-themed Batgirl fanfic, please follow this link!

Batman Law & Order
It's no secret that I hated 'The Dark Knight'. I thought that the film was nothing but a gloriefied episode of 'Law and Order' or 'The Shield' guest starring Batman. I used to think that I was alone in this opinion. However it no longer seems so. There's actually a t-shirt on the theme:

Fascinating

Okay, now that we have Peyton caring for Scarface, how much of Scarface is really dummy and how much is he ... something more?

Batman has always believed the wooden dummy to be a tool for the disassociative personalities of it's handlers to split off. But magic users get the heebie jeebies from being around the dummy, as if it is something else.... a familiar? A corrupted form of old primal magic?

Pacific Heights

Yuppie paranoia about a sinister lodger who won't be dislodged from his apartment in a renovated Victorian mansion in San Francisco.

I know that at some point this bit of continuity was retconned from the chronicles, but for a while, Barbara Gordon Sr was said to have died some time between Year One and the return of Sarah Essen in 1991. Was there ever an explanation as to how she was supposed to have died or was this an off-panel event?

I was wondering if anyone else on this board actually didn't mind, or better yet, liked this take on Selina's less than humble beginnings. I don't see it as 'misogynist' because sex work is legal in some parts of the Western world. Yes, I am aware that there are women out there who practice being a dominatrix but with Selina, I wouldn't have put it past her to have gone further with her clients.

What I find interesting/disturbing was the Catwoman annual that 'disqualified' this origin was aimed at ten year olds.

Any takers? Thoughts?

I think i'm a little broken-hearted. I loved Azarello's Broken City and was very hopeful for the Joker book... but it's not very good. In fact, i think it might be terrible.

Do we really need a Joker that pops pills and snorts cocaine and rapes women with their husbands close by? What kind of a world do we live in when it's acceptable to imply rape, show mountains of drugs, crush wine bottles into a man's face and flay the skin off someone but we feel the need to censor flipping a middle finger? How absolutely ludicrous.

Joker is exactly what Azarello and Bermejo said it wasn't - it's a cynical, puerile exercise in testing how extreme they can go within the parameters of DC Comics and illustrates a complete misunderstanding of an iconic character and what makes him great. Which is exactly the opposite of Nolan and Ledger's version, so Bermejo can rest assured that no-one will mistake his work for a rush-released Dark Knight cash-in. The movie may have taken a few controversial liberties with his appearance (which i personally loved) but they also understood that however vile and despicable he was, there was always an element of guilty fun in the Joker. There's no fun in the new Joker book whatsoever.

And then there's Harley, who first appears topless as she poses as a stripper and then says nothing for the entire book - "misogyny" doesn't even cover it. And as for the Riddler..!?

Absolute, all-encompassing, heart-breaking disappointment.

If you haven't already, i recommend you avoid this completely and spend your money on The Killing Joke Deluxe Edition instead.

BOO!
