Robin #176
This book--due to be released on August 6--is another RIP tie-in, like the preceeding issue. Once again, the creative credits have changed from what was originally solicited:

It is written by Fabian Nicienza and drawn by Joe Bennett. If it is released with the originally solicited cover, that cover was done by Freddie Williams II and is reproduced below.

Obscure Batman
I thought I'd start this thread after encountering the work of so many classic Batman writers and artists in places I never expected to find them.

I was surprised to discover Brian Bolland drawing Batman for what may have been the first time in JLA 200; Marshall Rogers returning to not only draw Batman, but to retell portions of The Case of the Chemical Syndicate in Secret Origins 6; Mike Barr and Alan Davis reuniting in Gotham Knights 25 came out of nowhere as well; Norm Breyfogle had his first work on Batman published in the 1970's when he entered a 'Design a New Costume for Robin' contest (although someone redrew his entry when it was published).

Given the fact that Bolland hasn't drawn Batman too many times, I was surprised that it isn't common knowledge that he drew him in that anniversary issue of JLA. Similarily, I don't know how highly regarded Barr and Davis's work on Batman was, but I still didn't think that something like the two of them working together after a break of about a dozen or so years would slip in under the radar.

So I thought I'd start this thread as a way through which the more obscure works of the artists and writers you like can be given greater attention.

I'll be honest, this mini had so much promise, but just seemed to fall apart at the end.

First off, Ivory Madison is a pretty good writer. Her pacing towards the end of the mini was rushed, imo, but for the most part, she was pretty good.

But I really dislike her take on Batman.

The dialogue, first off, was un...Bruce-like. "You're fired"? (And what happened after that? I thought Bruce fired Babs? But she's back with him after?)

Second, where was Batman when Helena was cutting the tongue off the assassin? The mini showed that he was better than her. How the heck did he let her get away with that, clothesline Babs off a bike and still let her get away. The house wasn't THAT big.

I just did not like how Madison portrayed Batman here. Look, he's not Bat-God. We can all agree there. But he's not this incompetent. Even in his early years, he would have tried to stop Helena.

And Babs was pretty portrayed as a rank amateur here, as well. Wasn't a fan of that.

I'm rather disappointed, as I was really digging this mini. But, two positives I have is that Ivory is a pretty good writer, although she needs a better editor, and Cliff Richards' art needs to be showcased on Birds of Prey.

Favorite Batman
Out of all the Batman movies, which actor played the best Batman?

My personal favorite is Christian Bale.

We all know that the various characters in Batman comics supposedly have some type of mental disorder that explains the quirks in the characters. I know a few possible disorders and the characters they match up with, but there are a few that elude me.
  • Batman - sociopath, specifically Dissocial personality disorder and/or an obsessive compulsive with a hero complex.
  • Joker- psychopathology, homicidal,
  • Riddler - narcissism
  • Two-face -psychotic maybe dissociative identity disorder
  • Scarecrow - sadist in a position of power; intense need to self aggrandize please add to?
  • Catwoman - ?
  • Penguin - ?
  • Robin (Grayson)
  • Others
